Yes - it is entirely strung in yellow brass ranging from .008" to .020" in the bass and seems to be fine like that. If you wanted to get a few extra bass notes by retuning bottom C# and D# to AA and BB (giving you the effect of a GG/BB short octave without the GG) then restringing those notes in red brass might be a good idea.
A suitable tuning hammer is included with the kit. I also got some tools from The Instrument Workshop including a tuning pin setter, a hitch pin setter and a hitch pin bending tool.
Good Work!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The rose is perfect for this instrument.
DeleteThanks for the blog. I've really enjoyed watching the progress of yout two built instruments. Very, very well done!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like yellow brass throughout. I thought there might be some red brass in the farthest bass. Interesting.

ReplyDeleteI just love that rose. It's hard to believe it's animal hide no matter how cured. It looks like ivory.
ReplyDeleteI will need to get a tuning key/hammer suitable for these pins. What did you use?
